International coaching

November 17th, 2019 Posted by Eesmärgid 0 thoughts on “International coaching”

My culturally most diverse coaching group included participants from 16 different countries. That experience convinced me once again how similar we as human beings are and yet how much we can learn from each other in a diverse environment if we practice unbiased listening.

Start Fast Masterclass

David Peterson, head of coaching at Google, and professional coaching pioneer, David Goldsmith, delivered a live masterclass.

Once again I realised how important it is in our VUCA world for organisations to develeop coaching culture and for leaders to be able to deliver just-in-time coaching, e.g. 5 min coaching conversations to help to accelerate learning.

Everyting is possible … in flow

October 31st, 2019 Posted by Eesmärgid 0 thoughts on “Everyting is possible … in flow”

Flow is fundamental to well-being and overall life-satisfaction. Moreover, according to a study by McKinsey, top executives in flow are 5 times more productive than those out of flow. It means 500% more productive. So you could go to work on Monday and take Tuesday to Friday off and get us much done as your steady state peers.

So, it’s worth incorporating flow into your life.

Flow is a state where action and awareness merge. Your sense of self vanises. Time passes strangely – it slows down (something you can experinece in an accident) or it speeds up. In flow we feel our best and perform our best.

You name your things yourself

When I returned from our visit to the doctor, I asked my 5 year old daughter what where 3 things she did well during the visit. She said: ‘I greeted, I held my mouth open and I said ‘Aaah’, when the doctor was checking my throat.’

‘Great. What three things did I do well?’ I asked.

‘You name your things yourself,’ she responded.

Playful parenting builds healthy brains, so does playful working

September 26th, 2019 Posted by Eesmärgid 0 thoughts on “Playful parenting builds healthy brains, so does playful working”

In their book ‘The Neurobiology of Attachment-Focused Therapy’, psychologists Baylin and Hughes write, “Play appears to engage a cocktail of brain chemistry that helps make it a powerful social process.” They further explain that play promotes brain development, especially in the crucial prefrontal cortex or “upstairs brain,” which is the home of executive functioning, healthy social skills, impulse control, creativity and joy.

Some ideas that can be appied both in playful parenting but also at work 🙂

  • Sing alone or together with your team.
  • Race each other (playfully) to get things done.
  • Create a code word for challenges, e.g. you can call an unpleasant phone call by a code name such as ‘planting the flower to make it blossom’
  • Don’t take yourself too seriously and just laugh at youself.

Coachinguprogramm juhtidele ‘Juhi teekond’

September 26th, 2019 Posted by Eesmärgid 0 thoughts on “Coachinguprogramm juhtidele ‘Juhi teekond’”

Teiste inimeste juhtimise alus on teadlikkus ja enesejuhtimise oskus. Hea kontakt iseendaga teeb meid elusaks.

Kuidas

Programm koosneb viiest moodulist (kolmapäeva õhtust reede lõunani).

Osalejatel on võimalus poole aasta jooksul võtta fookusesse iseennast:

  • saada teistelt juhtidelt peegeldust ja tagasisidet,
  • jagada üksteisega kogemusi,
  • avastada uusi vaatenurki ning eksperimenteerida,
  • liikuda püstitatud eesmärkide poole,
  • saada vastuseid oma juhtimisdilemmadele.

Erinevalt koolitusest võimaldab grupicoachingu formaat kinnistada uut mõtteviisi ja käitumisstrateegiaid.

Moodulid

Osaleja kasud

Lisaks programmi jooksul elluviidud eesmärkidele on osalejates arenenud:

  • enesekindlus ning teadlikkus oma sihist ja ressurssidest;
  • enesejuhtimise oskused;
  • oskus suhteid teadlikumalt juhtida;

Osalejad on saanud:

  • praktilisi võtteid oma meeskonna arengu toetamiseks;
  • väärtusliku võrgustiku

Meie lähenemised

Kõiki mooduleid läbivad mõtteviisid ja meetodid rikkast coachingu ja supervisiooni maailmast ja pikaaegsest praktikast: mindfulness, protsessitöö, süsteemne ja lahenduskeskne lähenemine.

About Mentorship at Tartu University

Today I delivered a practical workshop to a large group of mentors and mentees at Tartu University.  We discussed the difference between mentoring, coaching and supervision; practiced four levels of listening, wide-angled empathy, not-knowing position etc.

The best teacher

I love Arvo Pärt, a composer who possesses all the the qualities that I admire so deeply – humanity, humbleness and wisdom.

Joonas Sildre has created a graphic novel about Arvo Pärt. I have found many good quotes from the book, one of them could be translated as follows:

‘Maybe the greatest teacher a human being has is his/her conscience. A glance at oneself. What you are not like, but what you would like to be like.’

How to develop self-confidence

Some good reminders from the speech:

  • Repetition and practice builds self confidence.
  • I am the captain of my ship, I am the master of my fate’. We are captains of our ships, but often act as passangers. Do you take responsibility for your ship or hope someone else will do it for you?
  • Write a self-confidence letter to yourself. ‘Congratulations on raising three good kids. Congratulations on graduating from university.’
  • No one will believe in you unless you do.

Be prepared to be wrong

September 16th, 2019 Posted by Eesmärgid 0 thoughts on “Be prepared to be wrong”

Sir Ken Robinson:

‘If you are not prepared to be wrong, you’ll never come up with anything original.’

‘We stigmatise mistakes’

‘We’re educating people out of their creative capacity‘.

‘Picasso once said that all children are born artists. The problem is to remain an artist as we grow up.’

Are you prepared to be wrong?

Do you encourage your children to experiment and be wrong without the fear of getting punished?

How about your team? Are they allowed to accelerate learning by experimenting with new things?

That’s something worth developing in oneself, in our children and teams.
